She talks about past intimacy, present chastity, intimate forms of self-care, and balancing personal and pastoral duties. What did you expect, timidity? Two bloggers on the internet are horrified at the extent of her disclosure and make inferences about her character:. This article is not just a case of unfathomable TMI. It treats deeply personal, profoundly intimate subjects in a cavalier way that I think shows a staggering lack of judgment.

You have no right as a girlfriend or boyfriend to introduce your spouse when you are dating. If they have armor bearers, you need to have a seat! How can you hear God for them if you always giving a word or trying to oil them down anyway? You are NOT his shield of protection against fine women! Understand that it is his calling to minister to both men and women alike.
For the first ten years of my pastoral ministry ages , I was unmarried. The Lord had called me to preach when I was 13 years old, and the first church called me as pastor at age Here are my reflections on those years as a single pastor. This post reminded me of one the most awkward compliments I once had as a youth pastor years ago. A mother of a youth did not like the idea of me being taken of the market because she wanted her daughter to date and marry me when she was old enough in four years.
It’s seems to be times harder for a single female Pastor to find her a I know it’s because some believe in that women should not preach in.
And while this is a common question many receive regardless of their career field, it can often produce awkward responses for clergy like myself who are single. Yet, while I take questions about my singleness in stride, for many other single clergy, having their relationship status brought up by parishioners in conversation can be a sensitive subject. While there are more second career individuals becoming pastors later in life than before, there are also more unmarried or divorced individuals in ordained ministry than previous generations.
While I applaud this new trend of diversity in ministry, the reality can also be hard for single ministers who are more inclined to feel isolated and lonely in their call. And sadly, while many churches may be open to having an unmarried person as their pastor, many churches have a hard time giving up the fantasy of calling a young pastor with a baby in hand! Another friend of mine, a year-old woman who is a pastor of a small rural church, shared her painful story about not only being single in ministry, but also being divorced.
She said one of the most difficult days in her life was telling her congregation that she and her husband who came with her to her church were divorcing. While she said her small and mostly older congregation supported her through her divorce, it was the snide comments from parishioners that caused her to feel hurt — including one woman who said she was sad there was not going to be young children in the manse.
One way I already am already seeing this done is through Facebook groups for single ministers who support and encourage one another. For example, one group includes pastors of different mainline denominations across the country who share funny stories about trying to date while in ministry.

They should avoid making their private life public. And they certainly shouldn’t be seen dating– in fact, in order to be Pastor, you should already.
But when I wanted to marry a divorced woman, this church objected. My fundamentalist church says that an elder or pastor should never have been divorced, or married to a divorced woman, based on 1 Timothy and Titus. Would I be sinning, and therefore an adulterer, if I marry her? And if I do marry her, should I not try to enter the ministry? You know, historically fundamentalism itself began as a movement to in defense of the Scripture.
Now regarding your case. This could be a red flag that needs to be considered prayerfully. On the other hand, if he was an adulterer or if he has remarried, I believe her marriage bond with him would be broken she certainly would have a right to remarry, in which case you could marry her with freedom and joy. As to whether or not you can enter the ministry, it depends, of course, on what denomination and what church.
There are some denominations that have no rules at all and would indeed welcome you with open arms into the ministry; others would disqualify you. Finally, tread carefully. It is really best if you were to receive some wise counsel from someone who knows you.

Jennifer at An Orientation of Heart. My suggestion is that you enjoy your happiness with a special friend or two, and not the whole congregation, as they are not all your BFFs.
